Evaluation & Assessment
MNTS uses a multi-layered, continuous evaluation framework measuring each student across all four skills (LSRW) at every level — not just at year-end.
1 — Classroom attendance
Each 2h 15m weekly session maximizes participation; active attendance and engagement is itself a key assessment component, since teacher-student interaction is fundamental to language acquisition.
2 — Weekly homework
Assignments correlate directly with the week's lesson and are due the next class. One teacher follows up individually with each student/parent on completion. Digital homework via OpenLMS allows unlimited revisions — students improve until correct.
3 — Trimester-end assessments
Three assessments per year (around Weeks 8, 16, 24) track cumulative progress. Each covers Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing separately, using the IPA (Integrated Performance Assessment) format — the ACTFL-endorsed gold standard. IPA-based assessments have been used for intermediate-and-higher levels since 2018–19.

4 — Tamil Virtual Academy (TVA) certification
MNTS is an authorized exam center for Tamil Virtual Academy (Tamilnadu Virtual Academy) — nationally recognized Tamil certification: Beginners / Intermediate / Advanced certificates, plus Diploma and Degree courses. Open to MNTS students and anyone across Minnesota. More: www.tamilvu.org.
