About MNTS Tamil School
Our Mission
MNTS Tamil School is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Tamil language and culture among the Tamil diaspora in Minnesota. We provide high-quality, accredited Tamil language education to students of all ages, grounded in internationally recognized proficiency standards.
Who We Are
MNTS Tamil School was founded in December 2008 under MN Tamil Sangam with 12 students meeting at Eden Prairie Community Center. Over more than eighteen years we have grown into one of the largest and most distinguished Tamil schools in the United States — currently serving 400+ students annually at our Eden Prairie and Woodbury branches, plus a virtual program for families across the US.
We are entirely volunteer-run, powered by 50+ dedicated teachers and volunteers who bring passion, professional training, and community spirit to every class.

- Cognia (formerly AdvancED) accredited since January 2014 — one of the first Tamil schools in the US to earn this distinction.
- Curriculum fully aligned with ACTFL proficiency levels (Novice Low through Advanced Low) and the Tamil National Standards approved in July 2022.
- 37 students from 7 school districts have earned the Minnesota Bilingual Seal for Tamil (2016–2022) — more than any other Tamil school in the US.
- 7 ACTFL-certified rater teachers across all four LSRW skills in Tamil — first of its kind in the US.
- 22+ teachers hold a BA in Tamil linguistics; 30+ teachers trained in Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA).
- College scholarships for Bilingual Seal earners: $800 (Proficiency), $1,000 (Gold), $1,200 (Platinum).
