Key Characteristic 3: Engagement of Learning
STANDARD # 22
Instruction is monitored and adjusted to advance and deepen individual learners’ knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.
Elements
Professional staff members monitor and adjust instruction based on each learner’s response to instruction and achievement of desired learning targets.
Professional staff members analyze trend and current data to deepen each learner’s understanding of content.
Evidence
Weekly homework assignments and end of semester assessments for Interpretive Reading and Listening provide student comprehension of vocabulary and context with the use of interactive assignments or quizzes. The pattern of common mistakes and specific mistakes by a student helps teachers understand needed reinforced instruction on aspects of context, vocabulary and grammar.
The creative speaking and Writing always provide higher levels of complexity expected for better performing students. The base rubrics were useful for determining deficiencies of each student but there is no upper limit so teachers challenge students to improve from current level of speaking and writing.
Evidence 1: Review “Assessment Methodology” section in the MNTS Tamil School website https://www.mntamilschool.org/grading/. This provides a strong framework for assessment which is consistent and a regular exercise.
Evidence 2: Review “Conferences” section in the Parents handbook to understand on how parents teachers conference is used as a powerful tool for feedback. This medium is used for teachers to share the proficiency levels of the students and for the Parents to share the feedback on the curriculum, instruction methodology, tools and process. This way the Parents and Students actively engage in refining the learning curriculum and instructional methodology.
